 Streets of Twilight Town
« Thread Started on May 11, 2008, 4:00pm »

It seemed to be another peaceful day in the expansive place called Twilight Town. People were winding down for the day. It was around the time that people got off work, and were allowed to go home to their families. Shop keepers were ready to pack up and call it a day. A certain old man with a fruit and vegetable stall was about to do the same. As swift as an animal, a child dashed from the alleyways, running at the stall. The sky blue robs of the child were focused on one things, the fruit stall ahead of him. His long legs dashed with athletic speed, his hands ready to scoop up as much as he possibly could. The owner was busy with a customer. In an instant, the child grabbed some of the fruit, putting his shoulder into the customer. The customer fell backs and landed on his back, The child wobbles and spun once, dropping a few of the fruits, before he corrected himself and continued to run like the wind. The stall owned freaked and yelled "Thief!!", As the child dashed away from the scene. It was all too sudden, by the time that anyone and the child was gone.

A few minutes later, the child reappeared on top of a building over looking the Sandlot. He pulled the fruit from his pockets. A half squashed apple, and broken banana, and a bag of grapes. He smiled to himself and began eating quickly, leaving nothing behind. After he was done indulging himself so boyishly, he looked down at the sandlot. Like always, there were kids down there, practicing for the struggle. It never really interested him, but he thought that it would be a good idea. Training for one, and he could beat down the kids that pushed him away so much. He looked to himself, sighing softly. "I need to find some munny so I can get washed...It's been a week or two...." He said to himself slowly, jumping down ledge by ledge, before he slinked back into the shadows of the alleyways. He walked around for a while, looking for any dropped coins. He found a few and smiled, looking out of the alleyways, looking around for anyone that he saw earlier when he stole the fruit, retreating back into the alleyway.

Twilight Town.

This had become the first world he had arrived in when he had become aware of this universe upon the destruction of his own world. It was still a quiet, relaxing place, seperate and undisturbed by the other events going on elsewhere in the worlds. Keldric walked down the street peacefully, just for the sole purpose of going for a walk, as he rarely got to relax in his position. But he also wondered what to do next and where to go, as he knew the worlds were calling to him as a keyblade wielder. He was walking through the marketplace, thinking he might do some shopping, but noticed they were closing and soon dismissed the thought. That's when suddenly someone yelled out a word that caught his attention.

"Thief!"

He looked around, startled, and spotted someone dashing off with something clutched in their hands. He didn't see where they were running from, and if he didn't follow after them now it would be too late. It was too quick and even-paced to be a Dusk or a Creeper lesser Nobody, so they must have been human, and quickly Keldric followed after the thief in an attempt to seek justice.

But as soon as he rounded the corner the thief had disappeared behind, he was gone. Keldric looked in all directions, even up, but the figure had disappeared. Either he lost the trail, they were good at hiding, or they could travel using portals like he did. But either way, they were gone, the fact that he had lost them didn't change anything.

He walked slowly back to the marketplace in defeat a few minutes later, considering if he should pay the shopkeep for his loss, but decided against it. It was at this time he recogised the thief had stolen fruit from a grocer, and thought he should compensate the salesman for his loss. It was a nice thing to do, but the shopkeep didn't hold him responsible for his loss, he probably wasn't aware Keldric went after the their in the first place, plus he needed what little money he had to keep himself fed.

Suddenly, off in the shadows, he spotted out the corner of his eye the same mysterious figure that had been the theif. Keldric was cautious this time, approaching him slowly so he wouldn't scare him off. He didn't care about the item he had stolen - it was probably gone by now - or any reward there was for him to turn him in. He just sensed something unusual about him - something about his aura that was simular to his own. And that made him curious about him, in his eyes. Maybe it was another Keyblader? He would have to find out.

"Hungry?" Keldric called warmly to the bandit stopping a few feet from the person he could only determine was a male in the shadows. "Care to get a bite to eat, instead of eating ruined fruit? I'm Keldric, by the way," he quickly answered, so the boy wouldn't question why he should accept a offering from a stranger, and gave him a small, half-thoughtful smile.

"I hear the sea-salt ice cream stand is open late nowdays."

As the sun set, and the darkness began to settle in, the thief sat down and sighed heavily. He was in his alleyway, a cold and damp one away from most of the people, somewhere in the industrial region, where no residential houses were. He yawned heavily and grabbed a match from his pocket, lighting it, placing it over a candle. The alleyway lit up dimly. He looked over to his 'bed'. Strips of cardboard with an old blanket and sheets. He was sitting on a crate, which held his candle, and a bag. His hands moved into the bag, looking around. "...100 Munny now...I didn't think I had that much..." Now that he was in the light, his dirty blond hair was clearly visible. His dirty and tattered white shirt that had the word "Prince" printed over the front. His jeans had many holes and were also dirty. The only clean thing about this boy was his sky blue eyes the flickered around every so often.

He stood up and crouched beside his crate, opening it up. He pulled out a clean pair of the exact same clothes, smiling. This pair was cleaner, but more tatty, more holes and rips in the fabric. He stood up holding the clothes, before he heard someone speak.
"Hungry?"
He was tempted to respond straight away. Of course he was hungry, he lived on the streets with barely enough munny to sustain his own well being. He looked at the figure that was barely illuminated by the candlelight. He held onto his clean close, his sky blue orbs focused on this new person. What the hell does he want, he though to himself. No-one had ever come to his alleyway at night. Only other times where when little children lost their way. His usual dirty look would often scare them. He turned his body to the man, tightening the grip on his clothes, he decided to respond. "...Yeah, I am." He said softly, his right foot sliding a little to the side, he tilted his body and rested on the wall of the alley.

His eyes were flickering up and down at this person. He could feel a similar feel to what always surrounded him. What was this guy? A deeper force within the blond haired child focused on the person as well. Shizudo could feel the force, but as soon as it receded quickly he smiled happily, knowing this guy had to be decent enough to scare away Absolute Justice. As he asked the second question, Shizudo nodded softly, looking to the finish grapes sitting on the crate. "....Of course I would...You said your name was....Keldric?" He looked at the smile on the others face, before he pushed off the wall. "...I'm Shizudo." Shizudo's eyes opened widely at the mention of Ice Cream. Not only did this guy not worry about his social standing, but he wanted to go eat Ice Cream with him? He quickly went into his back and pulled out his munny, nodding to the man. "Sea Salt Ice Cream....Is a good idea...."

The boy nodded slightly at the other blonde-haired, blue eyed boy, who could have easily been mistaken for his brother by an onlooker observing the scene. "Good. Ice cream might spoil your appetite, but looks like to me you haven't had any in a while." he commented off-handedly, realizing he was looking now at what was the boy's 'bedroom' in the alleyway. He kept his distance, being careful, but also being respectful to his property. He didn't mean to walk into what could have been his house unannounced.

He didn't sense any darkness in this boy, but instead could feel a simular aura to his own - he couldn't quite put his finger on it. But from the way this boy talked and acted, there was something unique about him he couldn't put into words. He came out of his thoughts as the boy repeated his name, and introduced himself, and acknowledged him with eyes locked onto his in an friendly expression. "Yeah, that's my name, you can call me Keldy for short if you like. Nice to meet you, Shizudo. Can I call you Shiz?" he smirked amusingly, using humor to break the ice a little.

As soon as the boy he now identified as Shizudo pulled munny out as a gesture he was going to pay, Keldric closed his eyes momentarily and shook his head, opening them again. "Nah, dude, don't worry about it. Looks like you could do better saving it. This one's on me." He gestured for him to follow him, his amused smile from seeing Shizudo's efforts to pay his share still remaining. "It's alright, I used to be homeless, too. So I know the feeling, you want to save all the munny you can for a rainy day. You never know when you'll need to use it, for something more important than ice-cream."

As he waited for Shizudo to put the money away and ready himself, he flickered his eyes to the picked-clean stalk of grapes Shizudo had glanced at nearby, as if considering something. Then he looked back up at the other young man, as if almost thoughtful.

"There are better ways to feed yourself than stealing, you know."

Shizudo kept his eyes on the man who reminded him of himself, just this guy looked respectable. It reminded him of a novel he found on the ground recently. He smiled to the man, crouching by his crate, he looked inside. He pulled out a tatty old book, looking at the cover. In big gold letters, it read, "The Prince and the Pauper". "Yeah...I haven't had Ice Cream since I was young....let alone the Sea Salt variety." He looked around at his alleyway, before placing the book gently back in his crate. He looked over at the boy, feeling that something more than just looks were in common with this person. Shizudo looked at the man with a half shocked face, smiling, feeling embaressed. "Uh.....Nice to meet you too, Keldy...Uhm...." He scratched the back of his head, trying to keep his smile. He was so amazed that this man was even talking to him, and now he wanted to give him a nickname. "....S-S-Shiz....Is fine....."

He looked at the money in his hand slowly, before looking back to the other half amazed. "Y-You sure? But what...." Shizudo stopped talking and listened to him, he looked to the side, staring at the cold bricks. Now it all came together. This guy had been in the same predicament as him. "....Yeah....I don't know what I'm saving up for but...." His eyes drifted upwards. "...Maybe something happen....Maybe I'll be able to get outta this dump...." Shizudo smiled to the man as he guestured to follow. He looked around and scratched his head. "Uhm...." He grabbed a flat cardboard box, and balanced it on his crate. He moved behind it, now gone from the others view. He removed his dirty clothes and replaced them with his new ones. He walked out looking a little cleaner, although his hair and skin was still ratty looking.

He walked towards the other, but stopped as he spoke of ther ways to feed himself. He took a step back. This guy knew what he had done earlier that day. Was this guy just trying to lure him out so he could turn him into the police? "N-Now...W-Wait up a second...." He took a few steps backwards, his feet tapped a board of wood, he fell backwards. He yelped lightly as he landed on the concrete. He looked at the man, his eyes widening as a voice spoke in his mind "Don't be afraid! Fight back!" Shizudo shook his head. He knew that he was the man in the wrong. "Y-You don't understand! No-one has ever helped me since I was thrown onto the streets! I need help!!" He looked up at the man, ready to jump up and leg it if he needed to.

Keldric watched as the boy oddly moved to retrieve a book with gold lettering... he glanced at the title, The Prince and the Pauper. He identified that Shizudo was like the Pauper, but the thought never crossed his mind that he related to the Prince in the story. No, he was far from it...

He laughed a little softly as Shizudo looked embarassed and nervous, only making him even more confident. "You don't sound so sure about that, but we'll see how we go." he humored. This other guy really needed some backbone, he sounded like he needed some confidence, maybe he could help him out with that.

He nodded slightly, smiling as he answered the boy about covering the costs and the suggestion of his thrifting his savings. "Of course! I would have liked someone to have bought me ice cream when I was homeless. I could only afford to keep myself from starving." he considered positively. He observed again as the boy moved behind a cardboard box, and uneasily turned around, once he realized he was changing his clothes. "At least you keep yourself clean... I don't think I've changed these clothes in a while." he laughed, sniffing the color on his vest.

He turned around as soon as he heard footsteps, and lost the amused expression on his face when he saw the expression on Shizudo's. He thought he had come to trap him to get a reward... he held his hands up, palms outwards defensively, and slowly so he wouldn't alarm Shizudo. He spoke with a calm, softer tone of voice. "Now hold on, I know what you did today, but I'm not here for that. You shouldn't have to steal and live on the streets like this. Not when there's a better way to go about it. I can help you, but only if you let me."

He relaxed his posture lowered one open palm to gesture out the alleyway. "Now, how about we start with just one sea-salt ice cream? That's all I ask."

Shizudo peered up at the boy blinking softly. He kept his eyes on his, his body twisting slightly. When he held his hands up, Shizudo popped his body up-wards, shifting his feet under his body, pushing his body up. He stood there, looking at the other boy defensively. "What are you waiting for!? It's a trap!! Run!!" Shizudo shook the voice away, speaking to it, although it would seem rather weird that he was speaking to the ground. "Shut up! Let me control my life!!" He looked up at the boy, blinking softly, tilting his head. He grinned embarrassingly as he realized that the other boy would have seen him talking to Absolute Justice. He scratched the back of his head, before he nodded softly to the boy.

"You say you can help me. Help me and tell me another way to live. A way where I won't have to steal? If you're telling me the truth...." He looked at the boy with a smile. "...You're the first person to even try. Everyone else would simply walk by and give me dirty looks..." Shizudo walked to-wards the end of the alleyway, after he placed his money inside the crate, using an old lock to close to crate up tight. He smiled as he moved close to the other kid. His light blue eyes looked at the other boy slowly, he smiled at him and stopped ext to him. He looked him up and down, before sniffing softly at him. He rubbed the bottom of his nose with his index finger, grinning."You haven't changed your clothes? I guess I'm glad that bad smells don't affect my nose, or I think I might be complaining about you right now..." He laughed. For once in his time out on the streets, he laughed.

He walked out of the alleyway, looking at the sun as it fell over the building tops. He stretched his body and looked back to his new friend. "Hey, Keldy! C'mon!" Shizudo hadn't said it in so long. He stopped himself before he said it. The same question he used to ask his friends when he was younger. They all drifted away from him, because he wanted to do it so often. But Keldric was a new guy, he figured. He may as well have a shot. He looked to the boy, grinning widely. "I'll race you to the stand!"

His eyes blinked slightly as the other boy seemed to tense himself as he picked himself up, and then suddenly started yelling out loud. Keldric almost would have thought he was yelling at him defensively, if it wasn't for the fact he was looking at the ground when he said it.

Shizudo stood on his feet and expressed to him that he had been the first person to try helping him where others had simply given him dirty looks, at the offer of his that there was a better life out there. "Well, I'm not saying there's much that I can offer, but I'm sure that if you do a few jobs on offer on the noticeboard, you could start earning munny weekly and buy yourself food for a proper diet." he suggested with a slight smile. "As long as you're willing to work hard, I might be able to get word in for you."

He laughed slightly at the Shizudo's mention that his clothes would smell if it bothered him. "Well, even if you complained, I wouldn't really care. It's funny though that I probably smell worse than you do, though." he joked around with him, and then his eyes widened open in surprise when the other boy challenged him to a race. "Okay, Shiz, you're on." he smirked mischeviously, using his new nickname for him back when he used his. "The stall's set up opposite from the accessories shop. Ready? Go!"

He started running, swinging his arms in tandem with his legs, which stretched out as far as they could to cover as much distance as possible. As he burst out of the entrance of the alleyway, he considered he never had to run much, as he almost never had to run from the Heartless. So this was a good change, good exersize, and maybe even good fun. Maybe even if he let Shizudo win the race, it would boost his confidence level. But he would see how they went first. He was going to try to win to test his athletic skills, he didn't want to be bested by some other boy in a simple foot race.
